WHAT WE DO



Our work is divided into four programmes Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Education and Capacity Building, Public Advocacy and Awareness campaign, ,Environmental Conservation and Climate Change . We consider cooperation as necessary tool for development processes. Therefore, we maintain partnerships with different stakeholders, being aware of the importance of every single pillar: local communities, authorities, other organizations and individuals at national and international level. For example, we are one of the 3 host institutions for Project WET of the Water Education Foundation, USA in Nigeria taking water education to children and adults towards social and economic improvements. Our organization is also part of the Global Water Partnership (GWP) in Nigeria.

Since inception, Water Initiatives Nigeria has been active in the field of WASH. WASH is the collective term for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. Due to their interdependent nature, these three core issues are grouped together to represent a growing sector. While each a separate field of work, each is dependent on the presence of the other. For example, without toilets, water sources become contaminated without clean water, basic hygiene practices are not possible.

In order to be able to perform functions, solve problems, and achieve objectives in WASH areas, Water Initiatives Nigeria initiaties, develops, co-funds and operates solutions that aim to create widespread change in Nigeria's water and sanitation systems focusing on education and capacity building areas in which there is the best chance to make significant impact. This education and capacity development program aims at enhancing local capacity to deal with water challenges in a complex environmrnt. Through workshops, we provide communities with tools to manage water resources and appropriate sanitation.


public advocacy and awareness campaign



Water Initiatives Nigeria is playing a crucial role in enabling civil society organizations to demand accountability by promoting activities to influence political and stakeholders who create the policies, laws, regulations and budget regarding water, sanitation and hygiene in our local , state and national level. We also support and strengthens the involvement of local decision makers in implementing water and sanitation projects for their communities. We also work in creating awareness on issues of water sanitation and hygiene as it affects the communities in order to minimize and eradicate diseases in our society.

All countries depend heavily on their environment: Forests, grasslands, rivers, lakes, coral reefs and other ecosystems provide essential resources that provide food, water, shelter and energy. But those ecosystems and those resources are under incredible pressure. In Nigeria WIN is at the forefront of protecting biodiversity, so that people don’t lose essential goods and services generated by intact and functional ecosystems, and species aren’t lost to extinction and mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change, so countries can grow without harming the environment while strengthening their resilience to warmer temperatures and weather shocks.

Sustainable water solutions require an approach that strengthens all aspects of the WASH system: policy, financing, water resources management, institutions, and more. Our advisory services offers a range of consultancy engagements designed to assess systems, identify gaps, and develop tailored solutions that will help bring water and sanitation solutions to scale. Specifically, we help with: Governance, Asset inventory, Financial planning, Finance and mobilization Monitoring and evaluation systems ,Water resources management, Operation and Maintenance, Data acquisition, Geophysical survey, Operator training, Source water protection and Sanitation market development
